Gebrehiwet Redaei
Born at the foot of the majestic Gheralta Mountains, Gebriel spent his childhood exploring the stunning landscapes and ancient heritage of the region. Growing up, he balanced his studies with the responsibilities of shepherding goats and sheep atop these mountains, which are home to some of the most extraordinary rock-carved churches dating back to the 4th to 10th centuries.
As the son of a priest in one of these ancient rock churches, Gebriel was fortunate to learn the rich history and culture of his land firsthand. This early exposure ignited his passion for guiding, and he began learning from visiting guides who brought new perspectives to his father's church. Motivated to expand his knowledge, he went on to study tourism management, which allowed him to turn his love for this land into a profession.
For the past 13 years, Gebriel has had the privilege of guiding travelers to some of Ethiopia’s most iconic destinations, including the breathtaking rock-hewn churches of Tigray, the ancient wonders of Lalibela, the rugged beauty of the Simien Mountains, and the historical treasures of Gondar, Bahir Dar, and Axum. He also shares the incredible landscapes of the Danakil Depression, the Omo Valley, Bale Mountains, and Harar's old town. His extensive experience has made him particularly adept at leading hiking tours, as he is intimately familiar with the terrain and deeply passionate about sharing these unique wonders with others.
As a dedicated tour guide, Gebriel is excited about the future of tourism in Ethiopia and remains committed to offering travelers unforgettable experiences in one of the world’s most remarkable destinations.
