Samira Hamisi Juma
Born and raised in the vibrant city of Mombasa, Samira developed a passion for exploration and history from an early age. Growing up in Kenya, she excelled in both primary and secondary education, which provided a strong foundation for pursuing a Diploma in Tourism Management at Mombasa Aviation Training. Inspired by her sister, who had already made strides in the tourism sector, Samira embarked on a career in guiding.
As a guide student, Samira gained invaluable skills from seasoned professionals and began leading tours through Mombasa’s historic and cultural landmarks. These include Fort Jesus, the Old Port of Mombasa, the Swahili House Museum, Vasco da Gama Pillar, Gede Ruins, and the iconic Mombasa Tusks. Known for her unique approach, Samira learns from every guest, tailoring experiences to meet individual expectations while fostering a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. Her proficiency in English, Arabic and Sign Language allows her to connect with a diverse range of clients.
Today, Samira’s passion is to deepen tourists' engagement with local culture through establishing Quasar’s Kitchen, a culinary initiative that invites guests to learn traditional cooking methods using coconut-based recipes inspired by the flavors of the 1990s.
Quasar’s Kitchen also serves a greater purpose by empowering local women who face challenges such as early marriages, chronic illnesses, and social intimidation. The initiative provides these women with employment and a platform to share their stories and skills, promoting resilience and community empowerment. Through her work, Samira combines her love for tourism with a commitment to making a positive social impact.
